White-collar crime is commonly classified as a non-violent criminal offense, which is typically committed by individuals or organizations in professional or business environments. White-collar crime refers to those offenses that are designed to produce financial gain using some form of deception. This type of crime is usually committed by people in the business world, who because of their job description, can gain access to large amounts of other people’s money. 

White-collar crimes include such crimes as: embezzlement, a myriad of fraud schemes, counterfeiting, identity theft and other cybercrimes, money laundering, insider trading, Ponzi schemes, hacking, and espionage. In some countries it can also include offenses relating to the conduct of company business, or in relation to steps taken as a shareholder or director of a company.
